Surgida após a II Guerra Mundial com a chamada “explosão bibliográfica”, a Indexação se caracteriza sendo uma atividade de grande relevância no tratamento temático da informação, que por meio de uma análise conceitual, extrai termos representativos de documentos, visando a uma melhor recuperação. Embora já se tenha passado várias décadas desde o seu surgimento, a Indexação ainda é uma temática pouco estudada no Brasil. Direcionado a estudantes de Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação, Bibliotecários e demais profissionais, esse livro tem como objetivo, relatar a experiência do Grupo de Política de Indexação da Rede de Bibliotecas da Unesp e toda a sua trajetória de pesquisa que culminou na implantação da Política de Indexação para a Rede de Bibliotecas da Unesp e criação do Grupo de Linguagem com o objetivo estudar a construção e atualização da Linguagem Unesp.

Presentations from the 39th annual Charleston Library Conference (held November 4–8, 2019) are included in this annual proceedings volume. Major themes of the meeting included open educational resources, analysis and assessment of collections and library users, changes in licensing practices, virtual reality/augmented reality, journal package options, the future of print collections, and open access publishing. While the Charleston meeting remains a core one for acquisitions librarians in dialog with publishers and vendors, the breadth of coverage of this volume reflects the fact that this conference continues to be one of the major venues for leaders in the publishing and library communities to shape strategy and prepare for the future. Almost 2,000 delegates attended the 2019 meeting, ranging from the staff of small public library systems to the CEOs of major corporations. This volume provides a rich source for the latest evidence-based research and lessons from practice in a range of information science fields. The contributors are leaders in the library, publishing, and vendor communities.

Plato’s Republic was the inspiration for the theme of the 2009 Charleston Conference on Issues in Book and Serial Acquisition: Necessity is the Mother of Invention. The conference, held November 4-7, 2009, in Charleston, SC, included 10 pre-meetings, over 15 plenary sessions, and over 120 concurrent sessions. The theme reflected the changes and innovations that are taking place in collection development and acquisition activities as libraries expand services in the global marketplace while wrestling with tough economic times, including budget cuts, furloughs, and cancelation of some resources. Librarians are looking for ideas and innovation. The Charleston Conference meets that need, as attendance indicated at the 2009 occurrence of this major event for information exchange among librarians, vendors, and publishers.

Since the publication of the first edition in 2004, advances in mobile devices, positioning sensors, WiFi fingerprinting, and wireless communications, among others, have paved the way for developing new and advanced location-based services (LBSs). This second edition provides up-to-date information on LBSs, including WiFi fingerprinting, mobile computing, geospatial clouds, geospatial data mining, location privacy, and location-based social networking. It also includes new chapters on application areas such as LBSs for public health, indoor navigation, and advertising. The study focuses on user satisfaction with websites and personalised internet applications in particular. The abundance of information on the web is increasing more and more. Therefore, the significance of websites targeting the users’ preferences, like personalised Internet applications, is rising. The aim of this study was to find out which factors determine user satisfaction with personalised internet applications. Factors like the usefulness of the information or trust towards how personal information is handled were considered. A large-scale user survey evaluating three internet applications (from the travel, e-learning and real estate domains) was conducted. Expert opinions were collected to complement the results and provide insights from users’ and experts’ points of views.
